Oklahoma has for a long time been synonymous with Bingo. That is due to the fact that the Native tribes of Oklahoma have operated Bingo games for many years. Patrons from all of the neighboring states get in autos and travel into Oklahoma to play Bingo over the weekends.
The 1988 (IGRA) Indian Gaming Regulatory Act became law after a precedent setting determination by The U.S. Supreme Court just the year prior. Since that instance, 23 of the 39 Indian bands located in Oklahoma have established gaming halls. The Chickasaw were the first Oklahoma American Indian tribes to take advantage of the wagering restrictions, and today operate ten casinos of their own. Bingo is the game on which the above-mentioned casinos were founded. Electronic games such as slot machines weren’t approved, due to the fact that they’re believed to lead to gambling addiction at a higher rate than bingo.
In the past few years, Oklahoma governing edicts have altered to permit large American Indian gambling gambling halls. You’ll now find Indian casinos with one armed bandits, video poker and vingt-et-un tables. Craps and roulette are not yet authorized in the Native gambling halls as of yet, although this is simply a waiting game.
